2013-14 State Aid Payments End of School Year Reports are Available - July 29, 2014

2013-14 State Aid Payments End of School Year Reports have been posted by NYSED's State Aid Unit on each district's website. This report shows all the state aid payments made to the district during the 2013-2014 school year. The information is helpful in reconciling revenues. Your external auditor may also use the information to verify state revenues. Please note that the Estimated September payments displayed on the End of Year Report are the estimates for those payments as of the date of the report (7/29/14). You should monitor your district's 2013-14 GEN report, Line 42 (General Aid) and Line 130 (Excess Cost Aid) for more up to date information regarding the September payments.

Tax Freeze Certification Reminder - July 16, 2014

REMINDER: Superintendent Certification of Freeze Compliant Budget Due Monday, July 21, 2014. Chapter 59 of the Laws of 2014 establishes a property tax freeze for school districts (and other municipalities) beginning with the 2014-15 school year. According to the law, STAR eligible taxpayers who reside within a "freeze-compliant" taxing jurisdiction will receive a rebate check in the Fall of 2014. For a school district to be considered freeze-compliant, the district’s tax levy must remain within the property tax levy limit. READ MORE >>

Staff Update - July 11, 2014

The State Aid and Financial Planning Service is pleased to welcome back Senior Specialist Charlie Cowen. Charlie was previously a Specialist with the service from 2010 through 2013. Charlie will be working as a Shared Business Official for the Sauquoit Valley School District and as a Senior Specialist in our service. Sauquoit Valley has provided us with a separate office for Charlie to conduct his work for Questar III. He can be reached at 315-839-6429 or Charles.cowen@questar.org. We hope that you will not hesitate to contact Charlie when you might need any assistance. Please join us in welcoming Charlie back to Questar!

Accounting for School Technology Voucher Program Funds (STVP) - June 30, 2014

NYSED has posted accounting information regarding the Microsoft Settlement Funds, also known as the School Technology Voucher Program Funds (STVP). June 30th Deadline - TRS - June 30, 2014

Districts have until today, June 30th to inform the New York State Teachers Retirement System whether they intend to make use of the Stable Contribution Option (SCO). READ MORE >>

 

DCERT Requirement for Private Provider Reimbursement Approvals - June 25, 2014

A certification (DCERT) must be completed on an annual basis for ALL school age private placements (both 2-month and 10-month). 2014-15 Federal IDEA Grant Application is Now Available - June 12, 2014

The 2014-15 applications for Federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) commonly referred to as the 611 and 619 grants are now available. The grant applications and instructions can be found at: http://www.p12.nysed.gov/specialed/finance/2014-15-idea-application.html

Staff Update - June 6, 2014

It is with mixed pleasure and regret that the State Aid and Financial Planning Service announces the retirement of our Senior Specialist Steve Golas, as of June 30th. Steve has been with State Aid Planning since 2001 and has worked in education for 35 years. He has provided guidance and know how to school districts and BOCES around the state and his knowledge and experience on a wide variety of educational finance and management issues has been invaluable. We hope that you will join us in thanking Steve for all of his contributions over the last thirteen years and wishing him well in retirement.

2014-2015 Statewide Universal Full-Day Prekindergarten Program - June 3, 2014

NYSED recently posted grant information on the 2014-2015 Statewide Universal Full-Day Prekindergarten Program. The enacted 2014-15 State Budget appropriates $340 million for prekindergarten grants to incentivize and fund universal full-day prekindergarten programs, in accordance with Section 3602-ee of the Education Law. A total of $300 million has been allocated to the NYC region for this application and $40 million has been allocated cumulatively for the rest of state. READ MORE>>

 

2014-15 Charter School Basic Tuition Rates - June 3, 2014

The State Aid Office at SED has published the Charter School Basic Tuition Rates for the upcoming 2014-15 school year. These rates represent the per pupil payment that public schools are required to make for district resident students enrolled in charter schools. The 2014-15 Enacted Budget established a new formula for charter school tuition rates for the 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 school years. READ MORE>>
