TRS Provides Estimated Rate - February 4, 2015

The NYS Teachers’ Retirement System released Administrative Bulletin 2015-1 which recommends school districts use an estimated rate for 2015-16 employer contributions to the system of 13.26%. The bulletin emphasizes that this is an estimate and that the final rate will not be adopted until sometime this summer. READ MORE >>

The STAC Unit will continue to accept the Initial DVPUB Signature Form for Online Verification of High Cost Public Placements and any required documentation through the extended deadline of February 27, 2015. Governor Andrew Cuomo's 2015 Opportunity Agenda - January 21, 2015

Governor Andrew Cuomo will be presenting his “2015 Opportunity Agenda” today (1/21/2014) at 1:30 pm. We believe this will include the topic of education as well as a 2015-16 budget proposal. CPI - Allowable Levy Growth Factor for the 2015-16 Tax Levy Limit - January 16, 2015

The Average Annual Change in the CPI-U for 2014 was 1.62%, making the Allowable Levy Growth Factor for the 2015-16 Tax Levy Limit 1.62%. A key factor in calculating the tax levy limit is the allowable levy growth factor, which is the lesser of 1.02 OR (1+ the inflation factor), with a minimum of 1.0. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the inflation factor, or the change in the CPI, for 2014 has increased by 1.62% (represented as .0162). This increase assigns 1.62% for the allowable growth factor.

Minimum Wage Increase Posting Information - January 7, 2015

The minimum wage in New York State increased to $8.75 on 12/31/14. Please also note that the rate will increase to $9.00 on 12/31/15. The New York State Department of Labor has information on the new minimum wage. Available on the website is information on required postings. The website is http://labor.ny.gov/workerprotection/laborstandards/workprot/minwage.shtm. State of the State Address Postponed to Wednesday, January 21st 2015 - January 5, 2015

Governor Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State Address originally scheduled for Wednesday January 7th, has been rescheduled for Wednesday January 21st, 2015 in the afternoon. Information and instruction on how to view the speech via the internet traditionally are found on the Governor’s website at http://www.governor.ny.gov/ the day of the speech. The address may be carried by your local public broadcasting station. The Governor is scheduled to present the 2015-16 budget proposal on January 27th.

Changes in 2014-15 SAMS Projection Data Due to SED by January 15th - January 5, 2015

To guarantee inclusion in the February 15th State Aid database file, all revisions to data reported on Forms A, FT, FB and the ST-3 in claim year 2014-15 should be submitted by January 15, 2015 using the State Aid Management System (SAMS). State aid projections associated with the final 2015-16 State Budget Agreement (due to be enacted by 4/1/15) will be based upon the February 15th database file. READ MORE >>
